Resilience Practice: A Workshop
An online workshop to help stay grounded in uncertain times
A resilience workshop
The coronavirus pandemic has swept the ground from beneath our feet. There is no simple or easy way out of it, and there are surely more highs and lows to come. Perhaps the hardest thing is to feel grounded when so much is so much is changing around us. How do we navigate this time?
This two hour online workshop has developed over the weeks of the pandemic. We stopped it for a while, but then we realised that the highs and the lows come in waves, and that, without a clear end to the situation we are in, it is a helpful thing to offer: a workshop to help us stay resilient through adversity.
This workshop is a chance to press pause for a moment, to acknowledge the change around us, and to work with rools to help us stay grounded and resilient. Through the process we combine lessons from nature with exercises inspired by age-old traditions, adapted for the modern world.
As much as anything, the workshop is hosted as a virtual fireplace. It is a place to speak and listen openly, and to support each other at a moment when all of our worlds are shaken.
Content
The workshop will introduce a number of ideas and practices drawn from different wisdom traditions, related to awareness, relaxation and the nature of change. These ideas are central to our work with Way of Nature and the Bio-Leadership Project - and, like nature, relate to all of the forces of life: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
This work is about a way of being as much as a process of doing, because the next phase of humanity calls for a different set of qualities within ourselves. It is also a space to be human, and to work with a sense of community. None of us are in control right now. None of us can move onwards alone.
The workshop respectfully borrows and works with ideas drawn from John P. Milton, Joanna Macy, Thich Nhat Nanh and indigenous elders from North America and Greenland.
We hope this workshop can help in small but profound ways.
Workshop Guide - Andres Roberts
Andres is a guide to human progress by working more closely with nature. He is the founding partner of the Bio-Leadership Project and Way of Nature UK. This work - reconnecting human systems to healthy natural systems - seems all the more critical now.
Once, Andres went into the wilderness alone, for a month, as part of his training on transformation. When he did so, his mentor said: “This is about going into your shadows, so that you can help others in their shadows too”. We share these sessions with this spirit of community and support.
Registration
The workshop will last for 2 hours, and is open to 12 people at a time. We plan to run the workshops weekly and will continue to add dates while they are helpful, during the anticipated period of lockdown around the world. We will offer the workshop on a first come first served basis and also intend to run a waiting list and will offer additional workshops if there is enough interest.
We want to make these events accessible, so to register please click 'Pay What You Can' and pay according to your own financial situation.
Practicalities
We initially offered three workshops but amazingly they’ve been over subscribed so now we’ve extended these to twice weekly - we are now we’re offering them on Saturday mornings too. We’ll continue to run them whilst they’re helpful.
We feel it is helpful to keep numbers relatively small to be able to work well. If there is greater demand then we will run additional workshops in the coming weeks. Please do add yourself to this waiting list if an event is full. Do also take a look at other planned programmes and workshops we will be offering, and how we intend to adapt the remainder of 2020’s events and retreats.
The workshops will take place via Zoom so do make sure to have access Zoom. On registration we will send fuller joining instructions to support the workshop.
The timings of the workshops are London, UK.
“ thank you so very much for the wonderful space you created yesterday, opening up an opportunity for tender and important enquiry during such 'VUCA' times. I left feeling relaxed, nourished, resourced and inspired. I am hugely grateful.”
